Netero began his journey as a Nen user who, after reaching a plateau in his training, retreated to the mountains and performed 10,000 prayers of gratitude per day for years. The process nearly killed him repeatedly, but the result was an aura output and speed that placed him in a category beyond any of his contemporaries.
As Chairman of the Hunter Association, he is eccentric, jovial, and casually terrifying. He enjoys combat for its own sake — testing Gon and Killua early in the series, and choosing to personally lead the mission against the Chimera Ants knowing it may be his last.
